"Distinguish yourself from the crowd"

I have just registered with LinkedIn; I am amazed at how insightful and helpful the website is. It states that "LinkedIn connects you to your trusted contacts and helps you exchange knowledge, ideas, and opportunities with a broader network of professionals." This is very useful as it aids my chances of having a successful career. It is brillant that you can contact other people in your industry very easily to exchange knowlege, and can even connect you with a job opportunity. I have a lack of knowledge about this network however I can see that it could be a valuable resource. I am constantly conducting searches on google so it is very pleasing to know that LinkedIn profiles rise to the top of search results. Linkedin is also very helpful when it comes to markerting ones self and the website delivers some very inspiring quotes- "Light up your Profile with your voice" and "distinguish yourself from the crowd" which is of course very important as CVs and biographys can become very tedious to casting directors. LinkedIn also promotes that users "Own a profile that truly represents you" I really agree with this statement as I have witnessed too many times people falsely advertising themselves.

  1. linkedin is an interesting instrument of social networking. Clearly it is more professional than say facebook, it formalises the connection between people and in many industries it is the tool used by recruiters to verify your professional reputation. I have been asked a few times to write recommendations for people I used to manage. But what is interesting is how this works. Why did linkedin stay a professional tool and facebook evolved into party photos and status sharing?
